Confusing - They changed the Black version

      By Lazychicken

      from Prosper, TX

Comments about Bushnell Neo XS GPS Watch:

Just a point of note: If you're like me, you're reading all these reviews, and reviews on other sites, and blog articles, etc, and you're seeing much the same thing from most people. You're probably also seeing a lot of references to the Black version (368550) of this watch having a different screen than the Grey and White versions. People are talking about how the Black version has a reversed out screen and a special polarized filter which makes it better in bright sunlight and not so great indoors. At the point of this writing (Oct 2015), *EVERY* picture on every retailer's web site including here at PGATSS has a picture of the Black version showing the reversed out (white letters on black background) that looks really cool. But if you're like me, you've probably noticed that if you go to Bushnell's web site the pictures of the Black version don't look like that. They look the same as the Grey and White versions (black letters on white background).

So I bought the Black version in my local PGATSS store yesterday hoping that maybe there was a toggle setting to change the screen between normal and reversed. No dice. I sat up last night digging around on web sites trying to figure out what the deal was. This morning I was finally able to call Bushnell and talk to a technical guy. He explained that, yeah, when the Neo XS first came out the Black version had the reversed screen and the polarized filter. But then at some point they were able to "make some changes" that made the non-reversed screens work better in direct sunlight, so they no longer needed the reversed screen.

The interesting part is that if you go to Bushnell's site and look at "Support", even the Users Manual has dozens and dozens of pictures showing the reversed screen (again, as of this writing Oct 2015). There is even an FAQ that says: "My screen seems dark indoors or in shadows. • For the 368550 NEO-XS only, there is an added feature for ease of readability. A Reverse Display combined with a polarized filter allows the screen to have higher readability in bright sun (the condition which most golf is played in). The feature is also used on more running and fitness watches for the same reason."

It makes me crazy when companies make a significant update to their product and don't bother giving it a different model number or even mention anything about it to their retail channel. So I figured I would let you know in case you have the same concern.

Comments about Bushnell Neo XS GPS Watch:

Good watch for the price. I wear it to work as well. The GPS does on occasion take some time to lock and find courses. If you have an open view to the sky, you should be locked in less than 30 seconds. All the other functions work well. Sometimes I have to manually advance it to the next hole, but not a huge issue. It's very accurate and only 1-2 yards off (max) from the Bushnell rangefinder that my buddies have. I prefer the watch because all I have to do is look at my wrist rather than grabbing the rangefinder out of the bag and locking onto the flag.

Comments about Bushnell Neo XS GPS Watch:

Easy to set-up and use. There's a USB cable that connects to the watch. Works great for most golf courses. Sometimes the refresh rate on the GPS isn't great, so keep an eye out for yardages that don't change on your next stroke. If needed, manually reset the watch in order to force an update to the yardage or increment the settings to the next hole.

Doesn't slow down play like a hand held model or a range finder. Don't know if the course upgrade feature through igolf.com is compatible with windows 8, however, with 35k course preloaded has recognized all the courses in Dallas,Tx area. Soon to try in the Kansas City area and Milwaukee area.

        This product did not work

Comments about Bushnell Neo XS GPS Watch:

Tried Busnell Neo XS for first time today. Played two coursed, Harbor and Shore at South Shore Harbor in League City, Texas. It worked fine on the Harbor course, but gave completely wrong data for the Shore course. It apparently was keying in one some other course nearby, as most of the yardages were off by as much as 700 yards.
